Clayton Sickbert, 8, of Holland, relaxes in a cattle trough while Mark McAninch, 9, of St. Henry, and his brother, Gus, 5, watch from inside the beef barn at the Dubois County 4-H Fairgrounds in Bretzville on July 16, 2019. Mark and Gus then joined Clayton in the trough, the boys calling it their "Cowboy Jacuzzi," after a friend, Jacob Tempel, 10, called it such.

Work with photographers, reporters and editors who truly value photojournalism at one of America’s best community newspapers.

The Herald, located in Jasper, Indiana, is seeking a photojournalism intern to work from January through the end of June 2020. We are looking for candidates with strong journalism skills who have the ability to generate daily and long-term story ideas.

Like the wood workers in the local factories, The Herald values craftsmanship. Our newspaper is nationally recognized for its classic display of documentary-style photography, devoting ink and newsprint to weekly photo stories with the Saturday Feature. The photography staff works to create a learning environment for the intern with a focus on mentorship.

The internship is paid and includes monthly mileage reimbursements. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and a reliable car. Canon camera equipment is provided.

A portfolio of moment-based photos with captions is a must. The application deadline is September 25, 2019.
