Congratulations to Chaney Barrett on her selection as Miss Herbstfest 2018. She is the daughter of Scott and Carla Barrett.
The EPIC group met last Wednesday night. Forty children attended and there were 21 adults assisting. The menu for this Wednesday evening’s supper is country fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and fruit.
An early Thanksgiving celebration was held Saturday evening at the home of Jeff and Natalie Meece and family. The celebration was held so that their son, Pfc. Jordon Echeverria, might be part of the family gathering before he leaves on Sunday. Echeverria will be deployed when he returns to his base.
The “Cruise In, Let The Fun Begin” car show, sponsored by the Douglas R. Partenheimer Foundation will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Holland Park. All makes and models of cars, trucks and motorcycles will be accepted. Admission is free. A large silent auction, a 5K run, plus other events will be taking place. Vehicle registration is at 9 a.m. Awards and dash plaques will be presented. There will be a 50/50 raffle and food will be available. Proceeds fund research through the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
The United Methodist Women’s fall auction will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the church. This is always a fun-filled evening with all manner of items from baked goods, garden produce, pumpkins, gourds to Christmas and gift baskets. All are invited to attend. The fun begins at seven p.m. Refreshments are served.
The time is here to be thinking about Operation Christmas Child. The Collection Sunday will be Nov. 11. Last year, Zoar filled 120 boxes. It is hoped that amount can be exceeded this year. A tree will be set up in the church with needed items listed on the tree. The EPIC youth will be packing the shoeboxes on Nov. 7. Please participate and have items to the church by that date. The cost of shipping the shoeboxes has risen so donations of cash are greatly appreciated. Zoar has been participating in the shoebox collection since 2001.
A number of persons attended the Herbsfest parade in Huntingburg on Sunday afternoon.
T.J. Johnson and Ashley Rodenhouse of Lagrange, Florida, have a new baby girl. She has been named Sophia Grace. Sophia was born Friday, Sept. 28, and weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 19 inches long. This is the first-grandchild of Robert “Bomber” and Sandy Rodenhouse of Holland. Alice Ann Sattler is the baby’s great-grandmother.
