Young finishes season

Jasper junior Austin Young closed down his season in Saturday’s state finals at Indianapolis, placing 30th in the diving competition at the IUPUI Natatorium.


Young was Jasper’s lone representative Saturday, as the Wildcats’ group of qualifiers in the swimming events ended their season in Friday’s preliminary round. In Saturday’s diving prelims, the top 20 athletes with scores of 171.95 or higher moved on to the semifinals; Young earned 30th of 32 divers with a score of 130.55.

Hamilton Southeastern’s Cody Coldren was the state champion in the diving, accruing a score of 536.20 over the three rounds.

In the team competition, Chesterton defended last year’s state title and won for the fourth time in seven years, amassing 240 points to outdistance runner-up Avon (198)
