Women Empowering Women meeting set

The Dubois County women’s leadership organization, Women Empowering Women, will gather on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the St. Joseph Church Parish Center, 1029 Kundek St., Jasper. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. for networking before the meeting begins at 11:45 a.m. The meeting will continue until 12:45 p.m. This event is open to all prospective and current WEW members.

The guest speaker is Dr. Linda L.M. Bennett, recently retired president of the University of Southern Indiana. She will discuss her challenges of progressing forward in a traditional “man’s world.” She’ll speak about how she overcame the various obstacles while achieving her many goals.

After nine years as president and 15 with the University of Southern Indiana in total, Dr. Bennett announced plans to retire effective June 30. An active civic leader, Bennett has contributed to a variety of organizations in the Evansville and Southwestern Indiana area. She was recognized as the 2015 Rotary Civic Award winner. In 2016, she received the Indiana Commission for Women Torchbearer Award and Trailblazer Award and in 2017 the Boy Scouts of America Buffalo Trace Council’s Distinguished Citizen Award. Bennett is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. She earned her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in political science from the University of Cincinnati.

The mission of Women Empowering Women is to inspire women in business to reach their highest potential by instilling confidence, building networks and promoting community in Dubois County.

Advanced reservations are required for members and guests. Reservations should be made by calling the Jasper Chamber of Commerce at 812-482-6866 or by emailing chamber@jasperin.org by Friday, Oct. 5. The cost for lunch is $5 per person and is payable at the door.
