JASPER — Police arrested a woman found with a handgun during a Friday morning traffic stop.
The Jasper Police Department stopped a Mercury minivan in a parking lot in the 600 block of West Sixth Street at 9 a.m. because of an inoperable brake light and because the driver, Jill M. Clark, 41, 5479 E. State Road 164, Jasper, had allegedly failed to use a turn signal.
During the stop, according to police, it was learned Clark possessed only an Indiana ID card and did not have insurance on the vehicle she was operating.
Police said Clark consented to a vehicle search, which located a loaded 9 mm handgun inside of Clark’s purse, which was sitting on the front passenger seat.
It was determined Clark did not possess an Indiana Personal Protection Permit.
Authorities took Clark into custody on a preliminary misdemeanor count of carrying a handgun without a license and transported her to the Dubois County Security Center.
