Woman jailed for resisting, disorderly conduct

BIRDSEYE — Authorities booked a woman into jail Tuesday on preliminary charges related to a weekend incident.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office, Birdseye Volunteer Fire Department first responders and Memorial Hospital Emergency Medical Services were dispatched at 7:49 p.m. to aid a woman in Birdseye.

Deputies report arriving to find Jasmine S. Staggs, 26, 4 Poplar St., Birdseye, highly intoxicated and unsteady on her feet when she stepped into a roadway during the incident. Staggs allegedly resisted personnel trying to help her, screamed profanities and spit on a deputy.

Staggs was transported to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. At 12:29 p.m. Tuesday, authorities booked Staggs into the Dubois County Security Center on preliminary charges of Level 6 felony battery on law enforcement with bodily fluid and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
