Woman charged with shoplifting, paraphernalia

Trisha Kendall

JASPER — The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department brought a woman to jail Saturday on a warrant charging her with theft and possession of paraphernalia.

According to court documents, Trisha R. Kendall, 25, 113 E. 17th St., Huntingburg, is accused of taking merchandise from the Jasper Walmart Supercenter valued at $186.95 on Nov. 8. She is also accused of being found in possession of a smoking pipe used for marijuana on the day of her November arrest by the Jasper Police Department.

Kendall was given a Dec. 19 court date but authorities state she failed to appear for that initial hearing in Dubois Superior Court. An order to appear was issued, summoning her to court Thursday. When she again failed to appear, a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.

The Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a notice of intent to seek an enhanced penalty for the shoplifting charge, which would make it a Level 6 felony because of a previous theft conviction in Dubois County in 2015. A notice of intent to seek an enhanced penalty for the paraphernalia charge has also been filed because Kendall was previously convicted of paraphernalia possession in Dubois County in 2017.
