JASPER — A 32-year-old Jasper woman is facing charges for neglect of a dependent after a visit from the Department of Child Services.
The Jasper Police Department reports that DCS was conducting a follow-up interview Thursday on Navanna C. Sanchez, 32, 602 W. Seventh St., Jasper, after a positive drug screen during childbirth.
Upon their arrival around 11:45 a.m., they observed Sanchez holding the child, born on Dec. 31, upside down and the woman was falling asleep during conversation.
Upon further investigation by Jasper police, it was alleged Sanchez was under the influence of Xanax and Geodon, which she had been prescribed; however, her prescriptions that were recently filled were missing medications.
Sanchez was taken to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center for medical evaluation where she continued to show signs of impairment.
DCS’s investigation is ongoing. Jasper police have preliminarily charged Sanchez with Level 6 felony neglect of a dependent.
Authorities booked Sanchez into the Dubois County Security Center at 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
