William “Bill” Litchfield, 89, Jasper
September 3, 2020William “Bill” Litchfield, 89, passed peacefully on August 19, 2020, at the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, Indiana. Born in 1931 to George and Margaret (Hicks) Litchfield in Seymour, Indiana, Bill is survived by his wife Betty (Baker), his son David (Monica) Litchfield and daughter Ann (Evan) Griffith all of Florida. He is also survived by grandsons George Litchfield, Sebastian Litchfield and Zane Griffith, and great-grandchildren Alena and Noah Litchfield. Bill was preceded in passing by his parents and sister Margaret “Peg” Salb.

Bill was one of the star players on the 1949 Jasper Wildcats State Basketball Championship team. After graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Betty, and then graduated from Hanover College with a double major in Mathematics and Physics. After completing Officers Training School Bill served in the US Navy, stationed on the USS Remey during the Korean War. When he returned to Jasper he founded Wood Design, a nationally recognized office furniture company.
Bill was a member of Jasper’s First Presbyterian Church and a Charter member of the Jasper Freemason Lodge. He was an outdoorsman who loved boating, fishing and planting trees and flowers to surround the home that he and Betty built for their family. He was a private pilot and loved to fly. In his later years Bill enjoyed western movies and reading Louis L’Amour.
Papa, may you rest In peace knowing that your selfless spirit, and kind, gentle presence has made this world a better place. Your strong determination, unyielding dedication to fairness and strength of facing adversity with grace will serve as examples to live by for generations to come. You will be greatly missed and remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
As these times make it very difficult to travel, a private ceremony will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jasper Freemason Lodge or the Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, Indiana.
