Wildcats open season as walk-off winnersMarch 29, 2019
From Herald Staff Reports
The Jasper boys baseball team opened up its 2019 season as ‘walk’-off winners — literally.
In a pitcher’s duel that was tied at 0-0 all the way up until the 10th inning, the Wildcats were able to get the bases loaded against Shakamak with Grant Ahlbrand drawing an RBI walk to score Andrew Wallace to win the game, 1-0.
Jasper opened the season with Carter Stamm on the mound. Neither team was able to get much going offensively early but they did manage to load the bases in the fifth inning. However, the Cats were unable to take advantage and the game remained scoreless.
The Wildcats did a tremendous job on the mound as Stamm, Caleb Burger and Trevor Krapf combined to throw a one-hitter as they continuously kept the Lakers off the bases and allowed the Jasper batters to need just one run to win the game.
Jasper will be rather busy next week with four games — they’ll travel on the road Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday as they’ll face Bloomington South, Mount Carmel and Evansville Reitz respectively. They’ll return home on Saturday to face Evansville Memorial at noon.
