Wide turn sparks Ferdinand collision

From Local Sources

FERDINAND — A wide turn at an interstate exit ramp resulted in collision damage Thursday afternoon in Ferdinand.

Kristen N. Tharp, 21, St. Meinrad, was westbound on the I-64 exit ramp at Ferdinand and had stopped her 2004 Ford Explorer in the left turn lane at State Road 162 at the time of the 2:25 p.m. accident, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

A deputy said Tharp was making a wide right turn to go northbound on State Road 162 when her SUV crossed the centerline and collided with a southbound 2017 International Pro Star tractor driven by David F. Schwartz, 58, English, according to the sheriff’s office.

Neither vehicle required a wrecker but total damage was estimated to have exceeded $5,000.
