Weyer signs with Brescia

FERDINAND — Mackenzie Weyer figured it wasn’t necessary to travel farther away to get what she could receive closer to home.

Weyer, a Forest Park senior, signed Tuesday to continue her volleyball career at Brescia University in Owensboro. Weyer had previously considered William Penn University in Iowa as her top choice, but that changed when she visited the Kentucky school.

“Brescia is the same, it’s smaller and has individual classes and not as many people,” Weyer said. “So you’re not a number and you’re a student. I liked that and it was a lot closer to home.”

Weyer, the daughter of Brian and Leisa Weyer of Ferdinand and Marissa and Michael Hubert of Tell City, plans to major in marine biology.

“I wouldn’t be rushing around, I got to see the classrooms and it was small and teachers were active with the students,” Weyer said. “It wasn’t like a big lecture hall, it was an actual classroom and you sit there and ask questions and it was really nice.”
