We should shut down Trump instead of countryFebruary 8, 2019
To the editor:
Donald Trump now stands poised to plunge the country into months' more chaos and turmoil, either by imposing another ruinous government shutdown or by imposing his alleged emergency powers. That his fantasy wall is the fantasy solution to a fantasy invasion is demonstrated by the fact that even when he was supported by a supine Congress for the last two years, he did nothing to effect the building of a wall, any wall.
Apparently, the national emergency developed only after his dramatic losses in the midterm elections. What's next? The imposition of martial law because the late night comedians won't quit making fun of him? Carpet bombing Iran because his cheeseburgers were cold this morning?
His greatest legislative accomplishments in the last two years are separating millions of Americans from the possibility of affordable health care, presiding over the massive transfer of wealth from the middle class and the public good to the pockets of the donor class, and gutting all federal agencies dedicated to maintaining the common good.
With accomplishments like these, shutting down Trump may not be a bad idea.
