To honor local veterans Pine Ridge Elementary held an assembly, raised a new flag in front of the school and had members of the American Legion Post 493 in St. Anthony introduce themselves Friday morning at the Kyana school. Following the flag raising and 21 gun salute, Birnie Jeffries of St. Anthony and fellow veterans walked through the school’s hallways high-fiving students. “It’s always so gratifying to see the reception we veterans get whenever we come into a school,” Jeffries said.

After raising a new flag and having a 21 gun salute ,the American Legion Post 493 in St. Anthony put the color guard flags away and walked through the school's hallways shaking hands and high-fiving students.

John Welp of St. Anthony talked briefly to the students about his four years of service in the U.S. Air Force.

Pine Ridge Elementary fourth-graders Jazzmyn Cummins, left, and John DeWitte raised a new American flag in front of the school following the assembly.
