Warrant service leads to plea acceptance

Dotterweich

JASPER — Police served a failure-to-appear warrant this week on a Dubois man who promptly pleaded guilty in his case.

Jeffery A. Dotterweich, 38, 1075 E. State Road 56, Dubois, had been charged with felony methamphetamine possession in 2018. Court records indicate Dotterweich and his attorney were working toward a resolution of the case but, when the defendant did not appear for a hearing last month, a warrant for his arrest was issued Oct. 21 in Dubois Superior Court.

Authorities located Dotterweich while he was at the courthouse on another matter Tuesday and took him into custody on the active warrant, booking him into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:50 p.m.

On Wednesday, Dotterweich pleaded guilty to Level 4 felony methamphetamine possession. By an agreement of the parties after his plea agreement was accepted, Dotterweich was released from the security center to immediately begin the work release portion of his sentence.
