JASPER — A Jasper man appeared in court Monday to answer to felony charges of domestic battery and strangulation.

Luna Perez

Rogelio Luna Perez, 25, 108 E. 35th St., was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 9:58 a.m. Monday on a Dubois Circuit Court warrant charging him with Level 6 felony counts of domestic battery and strangulation.

Court documents state those charges relate to a June 29 incident investigated by the Jasper Police Department.

A female came to the police station that date reporting that a verbal argument with Luna Perez turned physical. The victim — police reported she had visible injuries — alleged her neck had been grabbed and she had been punched in the arm during the incident.

Police were unable to make contact with Luna Perez at that time. A warrant for his arrest was issued Thursday. The domestic battery count was charged as a felony because, according to charging information, Luna Perez committed the offense in the presence of children.

Authorities brought Luna Perez to Dubois County on Monday from Daviess County. During an initial court appearance, a preliminary plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf by the court and his request for pauper counsel was approved. His next court appearance was scheduled for July 31.

Luna Perez posted a $750 bond and was released from jail Monday morning.
