Wanted woman slips handcuffs, attempts escape

From Local Sources

LOOGOOTEE — A woman sought on a failure-to-appear warrant will face new, additional counts following her attempted escape from police last week.

Martin County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Keith Keller went to a business address just west of Loogootee at 12:36 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, to attempt to locate Roberta J. Warren, 36, Loogootee, who was named in a warrant for failing to appear in a methamphetamine-related case.

Keller arrived and immediately observed Warren when he entered the business. Keller placed Warren into custody, but while awaiting additional units for transportation, police say Warren freed her right wrist from handcuffs and ran toward an exit.

A physical scuffle ensued as Keller caught up to Warren, but Deputy Johnathan Wells arrived and assisted in taking her back into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.

Indiana State Police Master Trooper Jarrod Lents arrived and transported Warren to the Daviess County Security Center without further incident.

Warren was booked into jail on the active warrant and on new local charges of Level 5 felony escape and misdemeanor resisting law enforcement.

The Loogootee Police Department’s Capt. Jason Hennette also assisted.
