VUJC offers literature, creative writing classes

JASPER — VUJC is offering two electives for the spring semester (Jan. 7 through May 9) that may interest community members who love to read and/or write. For literature lovers, Intro to Literature is an opportunity to read and discuss excerpts of the great reads, from the classics to modern works. LITR 100 will be offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays. VUJC instructor is Theresa Singer.

For those who enjoy writing poems, short stories and magazine articles — or would like to learn how — then VUJC’s Intro to Creative Writing class is a way to express their creativity and improve their craft. The class is taught by Dr. Angie Mayfield, a published author, freelance writer and columnist for three magazines, as well as English professor and Department Chair of Humanities at VUJC. The class, ENGL 202, will meet every Tuesday between 1 and 3:30 p.m. Both are three-credit hour college courses, but tuition may be waived for retired senior citizens age 60 or older.

For more information, send an email to amayfield@vinu.edu or to register for Intro to Literature or Intro to Creative Writing, stop by the VUJC Admissions Office by Friday, Jan. 4.
