Volunteers sought for Astra Theatre

JASPER — Next Act Inc., the owner-operators of the historic Astra Theatre in downtown Jasper, are seeking volunteers for fall 2018 performances. Roles and responsibilities could vary from show to show, but primary areas the venue needs assistance with are as ticket scanners, ushers, concessions and more.

Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to email info@thenextact.org or call 812-566-1935.

The Astra’s fall 2018 schedule includes a performance by Pokey LaFarge on Oct. 6, a screening of The Rocky Horror picture show on Oct. 27 and an acoustic-trio performance featuring Rodney Crowell on Nov. 3. There also are a handful of volunteer opportunities in November and December for events that have yet to be made public.

Tickets are still available for a Sept. 6 presentation on the “History of Color in Cinema” by noted film historian Eric Grayson, the Oct. 6 solo-acoustic LaFarge performance, The Rocky Horror Picture Show screening on Oct. 27 and the Crowell performance on Nov. 3. Tickets for Next Act Inc. events at the Astra Theatre can be purchased directly at www.AstraTheatre.Eventbrite.com.

The Astra Theatre is owned and operated by Next Act Inc., a 501c3 that has raised nearly $2 million dollars since forming in October of 2014 — all of which has been used to create an endowment in support of the venue’s perpetual sustainability, purchase the facility, and then completely renovate it.
