Vigil marks Overdose Awareness Day

The Dubois County Substance Abuse Council will host an Overdose Awareness Candlelight Vigil in conjunction with International Overdose Awareness Day. The event will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Market Street Park in Huntingburg. The event will be held rain or shine.

The event includes, but is not limited to, guest speakers who have encountered addiction, a poem-reading about addiction’s effects, an opportunity for members of the public affected by addiction to speak, live music, a candlelighting ceremony and a bio-degradable balloon release in which participants are encouraged to write a message to loved ones who have lost their fight with addiction. Material will be provided on substance abuse, addiction, grief, local resources and more.

Attendees may bring a picture of their loved one if they wish, as well as, blankets or chairs to sit on.
