STENDAL — A Velpen man was formally charged last week with impaired driving following an incident west of Stendal.
Mark A. Hanselman, 54, 6048 S. Pike County Road 1075E, Velpen, was arrested early Saturday, June 27, after the Pike County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 1:44 a.m. dispatch reporting a possibly intoxicated male in a truck that looked like it had been in an accident, with fresh front-end damage, according to an arrest affidavit.
The report advised the vehicle was overheating and was sitting in the middle of the road with its hazard lights activated.
Police who made contact with Hanselman on Pike County Road 350E said he exhibited signs of impairment. He told deputies his truck had struck trees after he had swerved to avoid a deer, according to the affidavit.
Hanselman failed field sobriety testing and refused to submit to a chemical test, according to police.
Authorities transported Hanselman to the Pike County Jail and he was formally charged last week in Pike Circuit Court with misdemeanor operating while intoxicated (test refusal).
