HUNTINGBURG — Both drivers complained of pain after a Monday afternoon collision west of Huntingburg.
Amber Dejarnett, 27, Dale, was westbound on State Road 64 in a 2013 Chevrolet Sonic when the 4:24 p.m. accident occurred at County Road 500W, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy said Dejarnett stopped for another westbound vehicle turning south onto the county road and, when she did, her Chevrolet was rear-ended by a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Jared Atkins, 32, Ferdinand.
Police said Atkins stated he had something in his eye and had been distracted by it.
Dejarnett, who suffered a cut lip and complained of pain, declined transport by ambulance from the scene but later sought care on her own, according to the sheriff’s office.
Atkins complained of shoulder pain from his seat belt but he also declined transport.
Both vehicles were totaled and the highway was down to one lane for about 45 minutes while the scene was cleared.
The Huntingburg Police Department, Indiana State Police and a Berg’s Garage wrecker assisted.
A deputy cited Atkins for following too closely.
