Unfamiliarity leads to Celestine-area mishap

CELESTINE — Unfamiliarity with roadways west of Celestine resulted in a mishap involving a Martin County motorist Wednesday evening.
Timothy Padgett, Loogootee, had turned northbound on Steinbottom Road from State Road 164 in a 2001 Ford F-150 at the time of the 7:18 p.m. accident, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
Padgett, not being familiar with roads in the area, turned east off Steinbottom Road onto what he thought was another county roadway, a deputy said. In reality, the deputy added, Padgett had turned onto a private drive, and when he tried to exit the area on a path in a wooded area, his truck became hung up on a stump.
A Uebelhor & Sons wrecker freed the truck from the obstacle, allowing Padgett to drive from the scene.
