Ulis O. Jones, 96 of Santa Claus, Indiana passed away June 13, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper, Indiana.
Ulis was born on October 18, 1924 in Sloan, Iowa to the late Edgar F. and Florence (Sams) Jones. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served in World War II as a SeaBee in the South Pacific. He served in the Marshall Islands and also on Iwo Jima during the war.
He worked for the government for 35 years as a Geodetic Surveyor with NOAA and later in the private sector for several years. Ulis enjoyed fishing and golfing and following Heritage Hills Sports for many years.
Ulis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Irene in 2018; his son, Donnie Ray Jones; his brother, Wallace Jones; his sisters, Cleone Smith, Lorraine Nord, and Margaret Eskridge.
Ulis is survived by his son, Don W. (Staci) Jones of Santa Claus, IN; and grandchildren, Zack Jones and Cade Jones.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 17, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Boultinghouse Funeral Home, Youngblood Chapel, 36 E. Market St, Chrisney, Indiana. Funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Steve Beck. A burial with military honors will be at Garden of Memory in Gentryville, Indiana immediately after the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dale Church of the Nazarene.
