JASPER — Two Jasper residents were arrested for theft and fraud Jan. 24 after being pulled over for expired license plates.

Yasmany Alvarez Corvea, 32, and Jose Rodriguez Martinez, 27, were detained due to being questioned in reference to a previous incident involving stolen credit card information, according to a Jasper Police Department press release. With help from the Dubois County Prosecutor’s Office, officers applied for and executed a search warrant that led to locating nine credit cards using stolen identifiers.

JPD detectives determined information on the cards had been stolen by using credit card skimmers on gas pumps and notified victims of the incident.

The two suspects were taken into custody and both charged with 12 counts of theft, 12 counts of fraud and 12 counts of fraud on a financial institution.
