Truck encounters Celestine-area deer

CELESTINE — No wrecker was needed when a pickup truck encountered a deer Sunday night on a stretch of highway west of Celestine.

John P. Dixon, 23, Celestine, was eastbound on State Road 164 in a 1996 Chevrolet truck when the 9:16 p.m. accident occurred west of Celestine Road South, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

Dixon’s Chevrolet encountered a deer that came onto the highway from the north about a half mile east of Celestine, according to the sheriff’s department.

The truck collided with the deer in its lane of travel, with damage estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
