IRELAND — No injuries were reported when a wheel that detached from a trailer being towed by a pickup truck struck an oncoming car Monday morning on the west side of Ireland.
Nathan A. Buechlein, 30, Jasper, was eastbound on State Road 56 in a 2010 Dodge Ram when the 7:55 a.m. accident occurred near Walnut Street, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
Buechlein’s truck was pulling a 2015 trailer, a deputy said. The driver’s side wheels of the trailer came off, with one detached wheel going left of center and striking the front of a westbound 2016 Nissan Ultima driven by Phillip N. Freeman, 70, Otwell, the deputy said.
Total damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
