JASPER — A trailer detached from a semi and hit two vehicles Monday morning on Second Avenue in Jasper.

At 7:45 a.m., John Wininger, 56, of Washington was driving east on Second Avenue pulling a trailer behind his 2000 Peterbilt while Milton Lewis, 80, of Illinois was traveling west on Second Avenue in his 2017 Prius. The trailer unhitched from the semi and rolled into oncoming traffic, Jasper Police reported.

Lewis swerved in an attempt to miss the trailer, but the trailer hit the rear driver side of his Prius, police said. Brandy Wininger, 48, of Jasper was traveling in a 2018 Jeep behind Lewis and wasn’t able to avoid a collision with the trailer, which hit the Jeep head on, police said. The trailer rolled to the side of the road and hit a telephone pole, police said.

No injuries were reported at the scene, police said. Brandy Wininger’s 2018 Jeep was totaled. Lewis’ 2017 Prius sustained damages totaling $1,200. Police did not say how much damage John Wininger’s 2000 Peterbilt sustained.
