Traffic stop brings theft accusation

From Local Sources

JASPER — A Saturday night traffic stop ended with the driver accused of theft.

The Jasper Police Department stopped a vehicle driven by Duane H. Neukam, 63, 1480 Woodlawn Drive, Jasper, at 7:30 p.m. at 36th and Newton streets after noting the vehicle’s plate was expired.

Further investigation revealed a sticker on Neukam’s license plate returned to another person’s vehicle and was being held in place by double-sided tape. Neukam allegedly admitted to taking the sticker off a car at the French Lick Casino.

Authorities booked Neukam into the Dubois County Security Center at 8:40 p.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of theft. Neukam posted bond later Saturday night.
