Time to have weather radios programmed

JASPER — The Dubois County Emergency Management volunteers will be holding a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration weather radio programming drive from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 23, at Rural King, 1920 Lube Way.

The NOAA weather radio operates 24 hours a day and is a reliable source of timely weather information such as severe weather, tornado watches and tornado warnings.

Many weather radios on the markethave Specific Area Message Encoding capability allowing users to choose the counties for which they want to receive weather watches and warnings. Programming these radios can be confusing and Dubois County Emergency Management would like to help.

The public is asked to bring the manual that came with their radio and batteries because, in the event of a power outage, backup batteries power the radios.
