JASPER — Total damage topped $5,000 in a car-versus-pickup-truck collision Monday morning on Jasper’s south side.
David D. Reckelhoff, 61, Ferdinand, was westbound on State Road 162 approaching U.S. 231 in a 1996 Chevrolet S-10 at the time of the 5:43 a.m. mishap, according to the Jasper Police Department.
Police said Reckelhoff was intending to turn northbound on U.S. 231, as was the 2016 Subaru WRX driven by Nicholas A. Fleck, 24, St. Anthony, following him.
Reckelhoff said his lane of travel got a red traffic signal as he neared the intersection. He stopped to yield to the north-south traffic that had the green light on U.S. 231 and, when he did, his truck was rear-ended by the Fleck Subaru.
Damage was estimated at $3,500 to the Subaru and $2,000 to the Chevrolet.
An officer cited Fleck for following too closely.
