Theft suspect faces additional counts

NORTON — A man arrested and jailed last month in connection to a multi-agency investigation involving multiple burglaries and ATV thefts in the northeast part of the county was recently charged with additional crimes.

Curtis D. Rodgers, 36, 11588 E. Cuzco-Norton Road, French Lick, was arrested for Level 6 felony theft Sept. 20 after deputies with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office, Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana Department of Natural Resources went to the area of Tucker Lake in Orange County. At that time, police said, Rodgers attempted to escape while in handcuffs. He was tazed and taken back into custody as authorities recovered several stolen items — including a side-by-side ATV — at the scene.

Police said then that the case was still under investigation and, on Oct. 18, Rodgers was additionally charged in Dubois Superior Court with Level 4 felony dealing methamphetamine and Level 5 felony operating a motor vehicle after forfeiture of license for life. Charging information indicates the new charges relate to an incident alleged to have occurred April 4 in Dubois County.

Rodgers made an initial appearance on the latest charges Thursday, at which time he was appointed counsel and his bond was set at $5,000. His next court appearance was set for Nov. 21.
