A Springs Valley High School teacher who was arrested Friday following an investigation into inappropriate communication with a student is now facing an additional felony charge.
Kari Buchanan, 42, of West Baden Springs now faces one Level 6 felony count of child seduction in addition to last week's Class 6 felony charge of possession of child pornography. The Orange County Prosecutor's Office filed the additional charge today.
Indiana State Police report that Buchanan turned herself in to law enforcement Friday following an investigation into events that allegedly occurred in December of 2018.
Buchanan is listed as a health and physical education teacher on the school's website and was on administrative leave during the investigation.
Police report that detective Shane Staggs presented evidence to the Orange County Superior Court and subsequently an arrest warrant for Buchanan was issued.
According to police, Buchanan allegedly had inappropriate communication with a juvenile Springs Valley student.
A court document from the case accuses Buchanan of having an inappropriate relationship with at least one former student and inappropriate conversations through social media with at least one current student at Springs Valley Community Schools.
Buchanan was incarcerated at the Orange County Jail preliminarily charged with a Class 6 felony charge of possession of child pornography.
