SWCD announces annual meetingJanuary 27, 2020
The Dubois County Soil and Water Conservation District supervisors invite county residents to the agency’s annual meeting at the St. Anthony Community Center at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4.
The guest speaker for the evening is Emily Finch, invasive species coordinator for Dubois, Daviess and Martin counties. She will present “Work Smarter, Not Harder: How to make the most of your invasive control efforts.” Anyone who maintains a yard, garden, farm or forest will find this presentation interesting and useful.
The conservation accomplishments of local landowners will be recognized through the presentation of the Otto J. Bauer Conservation Farmer of the Year Award, and the Recognition of the 2019 Dubois County River Friendly Farmer recipients. The Friend of Conservation Award will be presented to an individual or corporation that makes outstanding contributions to soil and water conservation in Dubois County. The Ken McWilliams Award for Soil Judging Excellence will be presented to Jasper High School Gold, the county team that scored the highest at the SWCD/Purdue Extension Soil Judging Invitational.
The annual meeting agenda includes the election of an SWCD supervisor. Incumbent Supervisor Brenda Sermersheim is on the ballot. SWCD supervisors are part of a governmental organization responsible for the management of Indiana’s soil and water resources and the environment. Serving on the SWCD Board is an opportunity for a person to make a difference in their county. The SWCD takes nominations from the floor, so any qualified person interested in serving a three-year term may place their name on the ballot that evening.
The catered meal that evening is partially sponsored by Beck’s Hybrids, German American Bank, Freedom Bank, Old National Bank and Springs Valley Bank & Trust Company.
Meal tickets cost only $5. Contact the SWCD office at 812-482-1171, ext. 3, t to make reservations. All Dubois County residents are encouraged to attend. There is no charge to attend the SWCD business meeting, which will begin about 7:15 p.m.
In the event of inclement weather on Feb. 4, the snow day is Thursday, Feb. 6.
The SWCD will hold a short reorganization meeting immediately following the annual meeting.
