From Local Sources

JASPER — A motorist avoided injury Wednesday evening in an SUV-versus-tree collision in the Beaver Lake area.

Emily A. Smith, 31, Jasper, was northbound on County Road 310E in a 2002 Ford Expedition when the 7:31 p.m. mishap occurred near County Road 315E, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy said Smith was traveling uphill in a curve when a deer ran onto the roadway. Smith swerved, which caused the SUV to fishtail and collide with a tree off the east side of the roadway.

Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
