SUV strikes spilled cinderblocks

From Local Sources

CRYSTAL — No injuries were reported Thursday when an SUV struck cinderblocks spilled onto the highway at Crystal.

Gene Fromm, Shoals, was eastbound in a 2000 Ford F-350 that was hauling a pallet of cinderblocks when the 12:45 p.m. accident occurred by Cuzco Road West, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy said cinderblocks spilled onto the highway when Fromm’s load shifted as his truck went around a curve. The spilled blocks were struck by an oncoming 2000 Jeep Cherokee driven by Larry Peters of Dubois, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Peters Cherokee then skidded into a ditch on the north side of the highway.

Several Crystal-area residents assisted in clearing blocks from the highway, according to a deputy. A Uebelhor & Sons wrecker also assisted.

Damage to the Peters SUV was estimated to have exceeded $5,000 and damage to the ditch at the scene was placed at $1,000. The Fromm Ford did not sustain damage, according to the sheriff’s office.
