SUV strikes deer north of Jasper

JASPER — Damage was reported after a Pike County motorist encountered deer Saturday night along a county road northwest of Jasper.

Jared Wehr, 36, Otwell, was northbound on Portersville Road in a 2011 Buick Enclave when the 8:15 p.m. accident occurred 500 feet south of County Road 600N, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s department reported Wehr encountered a small herd of deer running across the roadway. The front, driver’s side quarter panel of the Buick struck one of the deer with the damage preventing the driver’s door from opening, according to a deputy.

Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
