Surveillance video solves wallet theft

From Local Sources

BIRDSEYE — Surveillance video helped Birdseye Town Marshal Benton Stroud with a Saturday afternoon theft case.

A man who accidentally left his wallet on top of a gasoline pump at the Circle A Food Mart, 1 E. State Road 64, Birdseye, reported an unauthorized use of a debit card at 4:53 p.m.

After identifying Taryn Ballard, 28, Taswell, as a suspect, Stroud made contact with her and, after an interview, alleged she used the debit card from the found wallet to pay for a tank of gas.

Authorities booked Ballard into the Dubois County Security Center at 9:53 p.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of theft. Ballard posted bond Sunday afternoon.
