Sun glare contributes to mishapJune 18, 2019
From Local Sources
HUNTINGBURG — Glare from the sun was cited as a factor in a Thursday car-versus-basketball-goal mishap.
Christine M. Mears, 52, Holland, was driving through the Huntingburg Elementary School lot at 501 Sunset Drive in a 2009 Chevrolet Impala at the time of the 11:25 a.m. accident, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
Mears noticed that a rear, southeast exit was gated so she made a quick turn to the north of exit, according to a deputy. Mears stated the sun was in her eyes and she had a blind spot as she turned.
The Mears Impala struck a basketball goal.
Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
