Several school districts are making an effort to make sure the county’s youth have food over the summer.
Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools is distributing meals through Aug. 10.
Meals can be picked up at Jasper Elementary School, 3799 N. Portersville Road, between 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Due to COVID, the distribution is being done as a drive-thru at the school’s main entrance at the front of the building. No sign-up is needed.
The meals are for youth age 18 and younger, but the child does not need to be present at the pick-up. The child also does not need to be a Greater Jasper student. For more information, call the school district office at 812-482-1801.
The Southwest Dubois School District is providing grab-and-go breakfast and lunch meals at Huntingburg Elementary School. The program will run from June 8 to July 29.
Meals will be distributed on two days each week. On Tuesdays, three days of meals will be given; on Thursdays, four days of meals will be given. The meals can be picked up between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. For information or questions, contact Ora Lee Cotton, firstname.lastname@example.org or 812-683-2272 ext. 2607, or Rita Hopf, email@example.com 812-683-1172 ext. 1011.
Children living in the Northeast Dubois School District can receive a meal as well. The district is serving lunch this month. The child does not need to be enrolled in the district’s summer school program to receive a meal, Superintendent Bill Hochgesang has said. For information and to sign up, contact Cafeteria Director Joyce Hulsman through the superintendent’s office, 812-678-2781.
