Students perform at Federation of Music Clubs Festival

Dubois and Orange County students performed in 260 events in the Indiana Federation of Music Clubs Festival in Jasper, Dubois, Huntingburg and French Lick on the weekend of April 24-25. Students were evaluated and received comment sheets, certificates, ribbons and cups or trophies.

The following students who participated are students of Mrs. Paula Alles. Zeb Bartley and Caleb Hawkins each won their first cup. Second cups were awarded to Avalon Lang and Leah Mattingly. Bailey Hawkins and Connor Howard won their #4 cups. Ashton Howard, JT Nord and Erin Verkamp won their #5 trophies. A #6 trophy was awarded to Ally Nord. Rachel Hollinden was awarded Superior ratings and will be awarded her #8 trophy next year.

The National Festival of Music Clubs Festivals Program is designed to give member musicians of all abilities the opportunity to perform and receive a yearly evaluation in a non-competitive environment. Participation in these Festivals promotes music study, stimulates interest in the musical literature of both the USA and the world, and encourages each participant to reach a high standard of musical achievement. The NFMC Festivals Cup Award Plan and Honor Certificates offer additional incentives to encourage continued participation in NFMC Festivals. Students perform in events such as piano solos, guitar solos, organ solos, art song vocal solos, musical theater vocal solos, hymn playing, American folk and patriotic songs, piano duets, piano trios, sight playing, improvisation and theory. Each student performs at their own ability level and progresses to more difficult levels each year.

A number of teachers in the area are members of the NFMC. New teachers and students are welcome. For more information, contact Alles at 812-631-2625.
