Strassenfest theme to honor ‘40 years of memories’January 16, 2018
From Local Sources
The theme for the 2018 Strassenfest, which runs Aug. 2 to 5, is “40 years of memories, the best is yet to come,” to celebrate the event’s 40th anniversary.
The Strassenfest began in 1979, with a few booths around the courthouse square and a small Bier Garten tucked into what is now the city hall parking lot. The event now features a variety of food and game booths; live entertainment on three downtown stages; and loads of events and activities for all ages, stretching from the immediate downtown area, all the way to the Riverwalk and Schroeder complex areas.
The Strassenfest Committee is also asking for the community’s help in choosing a Hofmarschall, also known as a grand marshal, for the 2018 event. If you know of someone who has given generously of their time to promote the city of Jasper and Jasper’s German heritage, you may nominate them to be considered.
To submit a nomination, send a letter listing your nominee’s name along with a brief statement of why you feel this person is deserving of the honor. Previous nominations may be resubmitted as long as that person has not previously served as Strassenfest Hofmarschall. Letters of nomination may be dropped off at the Jasper Chamber of Commerce office at 302 W. Sixth St. in Jasper. You may also mail your letter of nomination to the Jasper Strassenfest Committee, attention Hofmarschall Nomination, P.O. Box 307, Jasper, IN 47547.
Nominations must be received by March 1. The Hofmarschall will be chosen at the committee’s March meeting.
