Strassenfest theme, Hofmarschalls announced

By Herald Staff

JASPER — The Jasper Strassenfest Committee has selected a theme and Hofmarschall for the 2021 Strassenfest, as well as a final design of the festival button.

The 2021 Strassenfest will be held Aug. 5-8 in and around downtown Jasper.

With the recent completion of the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center, the committee felt an appropriate theme to celebrate German heritage this year would be: Jasper Strassenfest – A Cultural Experience.

As a tie-in to the overall theme, the committee chose Jim and Pat Thyen as the Strassenfest Hofmarschalls to preside over the 2021 festival, and to lead the parade as grand marshals. The Thyen’s were nominated and chosen to serve jointly as Hofmarschalls because of their philanthropic generosity and efforts to promote and preserve the cultural arts and arts-related facilities in Jasper. Jim and Pat’s philanthropic generosity made it possible to not only complete the renovation of the downtown Astra Theatre, but also provided the final push to move forward with the construction and ultimate completion of the Thyen-Clark Cultural Center.

The Strassenfest Committee is also moving forward with a half-pot ticket fundraiser for this year’s Strassenfest, with ticket sales beginning in late June or early July, with the final drawing to be held on Aug. 11. A percentage of the net proceeds from the half-pot will go toward the Dubois County Scholastic Excellence Award Scholarship fund to benefit Dubois County students attending Vincennes University Jasper, as well as future improvements to the Jasper Strassenfest.
