JASPER — An investigation into a stolen car in Jasper led to the arrest of a man now accused of auto theft and drug possession in Dubois County and felony intimidation, confinement and recklessness in Gibson County.
The Jasper Police Department received a report Monday of a white 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse stolen from the Mehringer Metal Design parking lot at 919 E. 14th St. prior to 4:30 p.m.
Police say the car was located in Huntingburg in the early morning hours Tuesday.
An officer received information that Jason C. Walters, 28, 491 Eversman Drive, Jasper, was a possible suspect. Police also learned Walters had allegedly been involved in Gibson County early in the day Monday in which a warrant had been issued for his arrest. That warrant, issued Tuesday in Gibson Circuit Court, charges Walters with a Level 5 felony count of intimidation with a deadly weapon and Level 6 felony counts of criminal confinement and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
Jasper officers located Walters at the Jasper Loft Apartments at 5:09 p.m. Tuesday. While searching him, officers allege they located a small amount of methamphetamine in his pocket.
Authorities booked Walters into the Dubois County Security Center at 7:47 p.m. on preliminary Level 6 felony counts of methamphetamine possession and auto theft and a preliminary misdemeanor count of paraphernalia possession.
