Cats favored, Pats draw reasonable pathOctober 11, 2021

The Jasper football team has notched a season for the record books, so far.
The Class 4A-No. 3 Wildcats have begun the year unbeaten (8-0) and have earned at least a share of the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference.
The Wildcats' playoff pairing sees them heavy favorites to get to the sectional championship. It's been eight years since they collected hardware.
After Northview, they will face the winner of Evansville Reitz-Boonville. Jasper's biggest threat in Sectional 24 is on the other side, No. 6 Evansville Memorial. It topped the Tigers 27-19 on the road in the 2021 opener.
Heritage Hills and Southridge were handed polar opposite assignments in the Class 3A Sectional 32.
The Patriots (6-2) have a straightforward path on paper to the sectional title bout. They have North Harrison to kick off the playoffs, with the winner playing Corydon-Evansville Bosse.
Heritage Hills last came out of the sectional bracket in 2019, en route to a state runner-up finish.
Southridge (4-4) heads into the postseason as the defending champs of this sectional, but getting out of it again will likely require multiple upsets.
If it gets past Salem — a rematch from last year's championship — a semifinal looms with the No. 2 Gibson Southern-No. 10 Mt. Vernon winner.
The good news for Forest Park (3-5) is that it avoided North Knox, who ousted it from the past two sectionals.
The bad news is that the bottom half of the Class 2A Sectional 40 is loaded. The Rangers open with No. 8 Evansville Mater Dei, and if they spring an upset, could potentially see No. 6 and unbeaten Linton-Stockton.
The Wildcats won the past two sectionals, including topping Linton-Stockton in the championship last year.
The most recent playoff win for the Rangers came against Tell City in 2019.
