Squirrel blamed for electric transformer glitch

From Local Sources

HOLLAND — Units of the Holland Volunteer Fire Department responded at midday Sunday to the report of a transformer fire along State Road 161 on Holland’s south side.

There was no fire associated with the 12:01 p.m. callout, according to Fire Chief Adam Chambers. Instead, he added, a squirrel was found to have made a connection that resulted in a short and some smoke.

Firefighters were on standby while a Vectren crew came to the scene and reset the transformer.

Two trucks and eight firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.
