Kalen Jochum of Ireland, 10, left, stepped to the plate as a batter, but without a bat, as Gavin Hopf of Jasper, 11, squatted to receive the pitch while the two took turns with four other friends as they practiced pitching on a softball field at Jasper High School on Tuesday afternoon. The kids were passing time while the junior varsity softball game between Jasper and Heritage Hills was taking place nearby. Heritage Hills won the JV game 3-2, but Jasper won the varsity contest 4-1. For a photo gallery from the game, click here.
