Spencer County man jailed on theft warrantOctober 8, 2018
From Local Sources
HUNTINGBURG — A Spencer County man was brought Friday to the Dubois County Security Center to answer to a local warrant charging him with theft and resisting law enforcement.
Court documents accuse Preston D. Hayse, 36, Rockport, with stealing a $39.98 bottle of whiskey July 3 from the CVS Pharmacy at 610 N. Main St., Huntingburg, and various items valued at $8.85 July 20 from the Dollar General Store at 106 S. Main St., Huntingburg. Hayse is additionally charged with fleeing from Huntingburg Police Department officers July 20.
A warrant for Hayse’s arrest on two Level 6 felony counts of theft and a misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement was issued out of Dubois Superior Court on Aug. 15. The theft charges were elevated to felonies because a prior theft conviction found authorities seeking an enhanced penalty.
Hayse was brought to the security center Friday morning and made an initial court appearance that day. He was appointed counsel after an indigency hearing and his next court appearance was set for Oct. 17.
