Speeding stop brings OWI arrestSeptember 6, 2019
From Local Sources
FERDINAND — A Thursday night traffic stop by the Ferdinand Police Department resulted in an impaired driving arrest.
An officer was checking vehicle speeds on Industrial Park Road near West Third Street when, at 8:04 p.m., he clocked a southbound 2018 International delivery truck traveling at 57 mph in the 35 mph zone.
During the ensuing traffic stop, the officer smelled the odor of marijuana while speaking to the driver, identified as 18-year-old Ishai Elyahu of West Hollywood, California.
Field sobriety tests were administered and a search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 6 grams of marijuana, police reported.
Elyahu consented to a chemical test after stating he had recently smoked marijuana, according to police.
Authorities transported Elyahu to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center where a chemical test returned a presumptive positive for THC, the main active ingredient in marijuana.
Elyahu was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 11:12 p.m. on preliminary misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.
