HUNTINGBURG — A Spencer County woman was placed under arrest after a Saturday night traffic stop.
A Huntingburg Police Department officer running radar at U.S. 231 near Southridge High School clocked a 2014 Chevrolet SUV driven by Melissa P. Arning, 32, 21 S. Washington St., Dale, traveling at 65 mph in the 45 mph zone.
During the ensuing traffic stop, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Arning.
Police who began field sobriety testing reported that Arning told officers the wind and cold weather were bothering her. Police transported Arning to the Huntingburg Police Station where she finished performing the sobriety tasks and failed the testing.
Arning refused chemical testing, which prompted police to seek and secure a warrant. While reading the warrant to her, police said, Arning advised the officer she was having a medical emergency.
Arning was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. Upon her release, police said, she was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 4:49 a.m. Sunday on a preliminary misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated (test refusal). She was released from the jail Sunday night.
